A few nights ago, unable to sleep, I started thinking about old games and got reminded of the first game I ever played on my first computer, a ZX Spectrum +2 my father bought. The first cassette I ever used was for Jumping Jack. Very simple, no colors (well, I found out later that it really did have colors, but my old TV at home didn’t). Just a stick figure trying to jump up into lines, going higher and higher up the screen, where a few gaps appear, taking care not to fall through them. Then, in the following levels, other hazards came into play, cycling lines and taking lives. It was simple, it was fun.
It was also one of the good games to load, because it loaded fast, so there was less chance of running into a load error halfway through. I still remember that particular sound, the screeching, crackling noise of the cassette loading, and the stripes flickering on screen as the data streamed in.
And then, there was that annoying sound when the stick figure fell to the ground, legs still flapping in that little falling animation, and me just wanting it to hurry up and end so I could jump back in and play again.

Those were the good old times.
