Again, taking the Christmas holidays to see some movies in the TV. I had this in my to-see list for some time, as I found the plot idea interesting. And I can say the movie delivers it. Of course it is a typical Hollywood plot, with all ending well, and with the main characters surviving everything. But you are expecting it from the beginning. Some details remember me of Get Smart series, like the gun locker hidden in the oven. Nice to watch and laugh.
While the fact of having Isla Fisher or Mélanie Laurent could make me rate this movie high, the truth is that I can’t. I can’t see any interest in the movie. There is a story, but so vacuous… And if one wants a movie about magic, or it makes it really about magic, and has interesting details, that are plausible, or they want a movie about fiction, and then you can make what you want. Doing a movie somewhat in the middle doesn’t make sense. At least for me. If you want an example, explain how Isla Fisher can fly in a soap bubble, or how the… oops, spoilers, or how the last movie scene is possible. Rated 5 out of 10 in IMDB.
It looks like that lately I am watching the movies that inspired Grand Theft Auto. Yesterday it was Gone in Sixty Seconds, with car boosting, racing the police, et al. Today, Drop Zone, with parachute diving, namely into a moving truck. Nothing I didn’t do before… in GTA.
Well, regarding the movie, it is yet another typical argument. But enjoyable. Action with humour and a girl. What else a guy wants? Ah, some more action, and some more jokes. Good for a last day of the year evening.
One more oldie found in the TV. The type of movie I like with cars, speed, humour and some violence. Ah, and with a chick. This time Angelina Jolie. What a difference from 18 years ago.
Not much to say about the movie. Again, Hollywood like story, but this time with a small twist in the end, although it continues with a Hollywood like ending.
Nothing much more to say. Other than I do not understand why so many people say Nicolas Cage is a bad actor. Could be better, but surely there are worst actors out there.
Well, usually the movies during Christmas are all comedies, franchising, and boring stuff. Well, I found out The Italian Job in the TV, and as it was in my list of movies to watch, I took the chance. And you know me. Given I like Jason Statham movies, and I like cute girls, like Chalize Theron, it was easy to like the movie.
Now, the movie is fun, has action, and cars and speed. If I needed to summarize, I would say The Italian Job is a mixture of Need for Speed or Fast and Furious and Ocean’s Eleven. 8 in 10.
Finally finished the second season of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. While during the first episodes of this season I got quite unmotivated to watch it, when I got back and watched two new episodes, the story got better, and my interest got back. Just finished the second season in a couple of days, and now preparing to watch the third. Regarding story, nothing brilliant, but good enough to capture your attention, and enough suspense to make you want to see the next episode soon. Another thing I like is that each episode has its ups and downs, allowing us to have some fun, and not just distress for the drama part.
It is quite weird when you want to watch a super hero movie, with action and some fun, and you get a drama. You still have the superheroes, but old and decrepit. And when you lost your mother a couple days ago, it gets even sad. Specially as (spoilers…) both old and decrepit heroes end dead.
While the drama is the main flow of the movie, you have a couple of fun moments and a couple of action. But in my opinion it lacks diversity. After a couple moves it gets repetitive. I think that the director could take a little more of the new mutants diversity (you will understand when you see the movie) for a funnier battle.
Well, for a fan of the original series, it will be hard to like the new one. First, MacGyver is too young, or at least, I feel it that way. Second, a little too cocky. But it was the first episode. Probably I could adapt and watch some more episodes. That is something that happened a little with some other series, like the new Knight Rider, or the Transporter series. So, lets give it another chance.
For some time that I did not watch a movie. And this is something I am ashamed of, but when I downloaded Red Sparrow I was expecting a Marvel movie. Sorry, I am no big fan of the comic books, and some of the character names are unknown for me. Well, guess what, no, it wasn’t. And I am not sure what this movie is. If a drama, if action, horror or just some kind of erotic movie. Anyway, it mostly fails on all of them. For drama, it doesn’t make anybody in tears, even with all the violence. For action, it lacks real action. For horror, it has too many boring parts. For erotic, it has too much violence.
It is not a bad movie. You can watch it without getting bored, even if some scenes are slow and lacking interest. But for other scenes, you want turn around and ask, is the violence over yet?
In any case, voted 7 in 10 @ IMDB.
Well, undoubtedly, Fast and Furious is just another franchising, but the last (yeah, the eighth) is just great. Not as an action movie, or as a car movie. But for fun! Really. A gave a lot of bigger laughs with this movie than with some “comedies”. But this sequence shown above, with Jason Statham, is just great. Not just the baby is cute, but Jason is a good enough actor to be cheerful and cute, despite of his “brutality” history on these movie. Hope the quality of this sequence of action/affection can inspire for future movies. Love it.
